The 50th anniversary of the SFS festival is undoubtedly a reason for celebration, pausing and recapitulation. For five decades, Summer Film School has been a unique platform for watching films (in the cinema!), non-scholastic education, sharing, deepening context and meeting inspiring people.

Cut. August 2023. One of the numerous meetings to plan the jubilee year of SFS. A general idea to involve a portfolio of former festival guests. SFS marketing director Silvie Jílková Suchnová and her idea of a possible form of a unique section. Doubts whether it can all be organised. Working title: Good Pigeons Fly Home. Almost a year’s work (guest research, communication, organisation). Official title: Comeback.

The idea of celebrating together with people we love and who love us, and the fact that they are world-renowned film directors, is not amiss. A simple system where each invited comeback-guest chooses one of their films made since attending SFS and one film from cinema history close to their heart as a gift for the festival. The first film with a discussion after the screening, the second one with an introduction by the guest.

Výsledkem bude naprosto jedinečná sekce představující tvůrce jako Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Fridrik Thór Fridriksson, Peter Strickland a Sean Ellis v unikátním kontextu. Půjde o speciální cross-over napříč dějinami filmu (Mohsen Makhmalbaf si například vybral snímek Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter… and Spring). It will be a unique all-star gathering confirming the position of SFS on the map of European film festivals. And most importantly, it will be a joint celebration of our festival team, filmmakers and festival audience.
