This section was launched in 2019, and it showcases the national cinemas recognized at major international film festivals (Bulgaria, Israel, Portugal, Brasil, Tunisia). After the successful Tunisian edition and the 2024 Golden Bear for Mati Diop’s Dahomey, the entire African continent was put on our radar. For the second year in a row, Terra turns into Continens. Thanks to this unique concept, we get enough space for a detailed analysis of contemporary festival films from Africa and examination of their “export” potential. Our inspiring journey will take us to Burkina Faso, Cameroon, or Nigeria, offering a glimpse into the work of both debuting and established artists.

Jan Jílek, is the Summer Film School programming director who was brought up on Jean-Claude Van Damme and Iva Hejlíčková’s articles for Cinema magazine. He graduated at Palacký University in Olomouc and ran a film club in Hradec Králové. During his 19-year career at the SFS (yes, he started very young), he was behind so many sections and so many guests that he became an expert on everything…
