High tension prevailed in Czech society throughout 1989. It all began with a series of protests commemorating the anniversary of Jan Palach’s self-immolation, then came a petition called “A Few Sentences”, and everything culminated in a rally on 17 November which sparked the so-called Velvet Revolution. What was the atmosphere like at FAMU during those days? How did FAMU students and teachers contribute to the revolution? Who started the unprecedented Student TV which was broadcasted by Czechoslovak Television within the Kontakt show? The FAMU History 7 will attempt to answer these questions through panel discussions with the main players of the 1989 FAMU events and through the screenings of films directed by Jan Svěrák, Petr Kotek or Zdeněk Tyc.
Jan Jendřejek Jan Jendřejek focuses on the history of Czech and Czechoslovak cinema. He likes to discover its unexplored realms and hidden gems. He never condemns Czech cinema and respects the filmmakers who were able to make their marks abroad.
