This SFS section, launched in 2019, showcases the national cinemas that recently won recognition at major film festivals (Bulgaria, Israel, Mexico, Portugal, Brazil, Tunisia). After last year’s Tunisian edition and the 2024 Golden Bear for Mati Diop’s Dahomey, we are going to focus on the entire African continent. Terra is turning to Continens, and this change will not be a matter of one but two years. This unique concept will allow us for a deep analysis of the contemporary African films that are screened at festivals and for the examination of their “export” qualities. This inspiring journey will take us to Lesotho, Chad, Sudan, and Somalia by introducing the works of both emerging and renowned local filmmakers.
