Retrospective: Federico Fellini

Federico Fellini, renowned for his auteurist vision and autobiographical films, was also exceptional in his collaborations: with actors (Marcello Mastroianni, Alberto Sordi and his wife Giulietta Masia), screenwriters (Ennio Flaiano, Bernardino Zapponi), music composers (Nino Rota), costume designers (Danilo Donati), producers (Angelo Rizzoli) and others. This section will explore the influence of Fellini’s cinematic universe and unique style on the general character of filmcraft. We will trace Fellini’s professional career from the ruins of post-war Italy and international upswing of Neorealism, through the brilliant creativity of the 1960s auteur films and his unique comedy style, up to the evolution of social values and the television-influenced political landscape of consumer society of the 1980s. In Fellini’s films, insightful observations mixed with fantasy and memories; his talent to foster collaboration created one of the most memorable film legacies that influence directors all over the world.
