Our traditional Student Film Marathon will offer the selection of the best films from all Czech film high schools and universities. The films will be screened on Masaryk Square in Uherské Hradiště and on Czech Television and will include feature, animated, documentary or experimental works from Prague’s FAMU, FAMO Písek, UTB Zlín, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, University of Ostrava, Palacký University Olomouc and Brno’s FAVU. High schools will be represented by Václav Hollar’s Art School, SUŠG Jihlava, SPŠST Panská, SUŠ Ostrava, Private School Michael or SUPŠ Uherské Hradiště. The programme will be curated by Milan Kruml, the Czech Television senior media analyst.
A special block of Slovak student films, curated by the SFS programmers, will present the best student films from Bratislava’s Academy of Fine Arts. The documentary essay A Sea to Remember unexpectedly intertwines memories, illness and virtual reality. The extremely powerful documentary Confession explores the inner world of a young woman struggling to cope with the traumatic sexual attack from the priest during her confession. The poignant black-and-white film Tomorrow tells the story of two young brothers and their grown-up problems. The animated riddle Feast tries to figure out how to defend against a pack of wolves. The documentary film Art: Or There Is Nothing in the East offers a unique perspective on the peculiar culture of Eastern Slovakia (and Brno).
Jaroslav Sedláček, a creative producer in Czech Television, programmer and great fan of Czech cinema. He’d written about film for a long time until he started making it. He loves biking, swimming, soft side light and films that can change a viewer (at least for a moment).
